Cowdenbeath are known as the Blue Brazil. As one of their few die-hard fans explained in the Telegraph recently the moniker came about ‘because Cowden play in blue and have debts like a Third World country’. It’s a self-deprecating description but one which acknowledges the style the Scots expect from their footballers.

These days they are lucky to get a couple of hundred fans and that’s just for the stock car racing they also hold at the ground. Back in 1920 though it was a much more civilised affair, here they are beating Dunfermline 3-2… Just look at this crowd.
