Hans van der Meer – European Fields
At the beginning of the 1995 season, Dutch photographer Hans van der Meer set out to take a series of football photographs that avoided the clichéd traditions of modern sports photography. In an attempt to record the game in its simplest form, he sought matches at the bottom end of the amateur leagues across Europe. This fantastic exhibition is now on at Host Gallery, East London and runs from 21 October – 28 November 2009. I’ve put a small selection of the photos below.
