Straight Red in 4 Seconds
This is possibly the fastest ever red card in professional football history and the honour goes to Tokyo Verdy midfielder Tomo Sugawara. The J2 game between Verdy and Sagan Tosu was barely 4 seconds old when Sugawara takes his man down.
A paltry 3043 fans were rattling around inside the 50000 seater Ajinomoto Stadium to witness this dubious piece of history and see Giuseppe Lorenzo’s record have a couple of seconds shaved off. Lorenzo was given an early bath after just ten seconds while playing for Bologna in 1990.
Not that it mattered, despite playing the entire game with 10 men, Tokyo Verdy won 2-0.
