Here’s Ken Furphy again giving what could be the first ever televised teamtalk as his Watford players prepare for their FA fourth round tie against Manchester United in 1969. Watford were a third division side at the time and Machester United were the European champions but Furphy has got them sussed. Geroge Best – “Lay off him until you’ve got two men covering round the back…. then go and have a bite at him”.  Bobby Charlton – “He’ll be wearing number nine on his back, don’t let him have anything round the box”. And it paid off as they earned themselves a 1-1 draw in front of a record home crowd.  Note the player at the back having a fag.
